I recently purchased some tires rated for 80,000 miles. That’s enough to take a mind-boggling 13 round-trips from Hillsboro to New York! Which got me wondering about cutting edge tires of times past.
Here’s a 1914 ad for the “Nobby” tire in The Sunday Oregonian (Portland, OR May 3, 1914). The United State Tire Company advertises that the “nobs” on their tires help resist puncturing, increase traction (lot more dirt roads!), and will get you up to a 5,000 miles warranty!
Tires, I’m sorry I’ve taken you for granted all these years.
